Chronological extremes: Sections XII-XVIII. Consistency 1,171 units on a membranous support; approx. 9 ml. Description The Diplomatico collects parchments (privileges, bulls, briefs, etc.) received or otherwise acquired by the General Curia of the Carmelite Order and its various offices, which are divided into series based on the format of the support: – I Extra; – II Extra; – III Extra; – Various.
In the past, papal bulls were kept, in chronological order, by the Procurator General in his own archive, in a cabinet specially constructed for their safekeeping. Between Between 1925 and 1930, the membranous material suffered considerable damage, especially following the removal of most of the lead seals. Before the end of the Second World War, all papal bulls held by the proctor were transferred to the General Archive and were joined with other parchments, particularly notarial deeds extracted from the section Provinces and convents, forming this large miscellany of membranous material. The Diplomatico was then given its current arrangement in four series, based on the size of the parchments themselves. Within each series, the documents are subdivided by their reference centuries (1300, 1400, 1500, 1600, 1700).
The Diplomatico is currently being inventoried and restored.
